High Mileage Ford Transit Connects

MY EXPERIENCE

To keep it short – while I’ve only 23,000 miles on the clock, I’ve had no mechanical or electrical problems to speak of whatsoever. I was confident in my research when I purchased the new van and declined all extended warranties and service packages. For maintenance, I change the synthetic oil every 10,000 miles or after one year, whichever comes first, I keep up with all other basic maintenance items including fluids, filters, and belts (long way off yet), and I feed it gas when it’s hungry.

The Connect has been a fine reliable vehicle.

I’ve used the Connect as a daily commuter, a weekender, and as a full-time camper since May 2018. Sporting the base model vehicle spec and few options installed from the factory, the simple minimalist configuration continues to provide a good measure of peace of mind. Even the main drawback of amplified road-noise brought on by piloting an empty cargo van went away with deliberate application of damping materials, insulation, and the full array of camper furniture. Not only do I not have any rattles or squeaks to contend with thanks to careful planning, but the camper furniture is so secure and vehicle center of gravity remarkably low and balanced, that I have no problem initiating extended high-speed cornering when navigating twisty mountainous roads. It’s actually fun to drive! I’m just venturing a guess, but I doubt I could say the same with most larger vans.
